Portrait of the editor as a young man

Following a school education that included seven years of Latin, which left me with a taste for grammatical clarity and logical sentence construction, I graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA in Philosophy and Theology in 1987.

A short period in trade publishing (with VNU Business Publications) was followed by several years with the UK academic publishers Routledge, where I was employed as a Desk Editor in the social sciences and later as an Associate Commissioning Editor in the field of business and management.

From 2000 to 2007, I worked as full-time Language Editor for the Peace Research Institute Oslo, where I was responsible for copy-editing and quality control for a range of institute publications, including doctoral dissertations, research articles and annual reports, in addition to the institute's two peer-reviewed international journals, Security Dialogue and Journal of Peace Research.

In 2007, I formally registered Carville Language Services with Norway's Brønnøysund Register Centre and began providing independent, high-quality editorial services from a quiet haven in rural Telemark.
